Established in 1996, Media Monitor for Women Network is a women’s civil society organization in Beijing. It uses various strategies, including research, training, advocacy, writing,  translation, and independent media production, to promote gender equality in the media and women’s communication rights.

In September 2009, Media Monitor for Women Network in Beijing independently launched a feminist weekly e-paper  Women’s Voice. It analyzes and comments on current affairs related to women’s rights and gender equality; tracks and responds to the mass media reports on issues related to women and gender; reports on the activities of women’s civil society organizations; translates information of the international women’s movement. It is known for its rich information, unique commentary, and critical viewpoint.

The Network became active in the social media in 2010. It also opened its Weibo account @女權之聲 in April 2011, and characterized itself as having “a feminist stance, a civic vision, and an orientation towards action.” It has become one of the most active feminist social media platforms in China, and has mobilized people in support of many influential online campaigns.
